T-minus 5 minutes and counting. I enjoyed the first episode and am looking forward to the second, especially to watch artists undertake the mixed-media sculptural process, as we’d like to cover it more in Art Business News in the future.

Wow. Looks like Nao is still on her high horse.

    -Kristin

  3. June 17, 2010 2:07 am

Ryan just mentioned that he’s not a sculptural artist, hence the most interesting part of this show so far for me: pushing artists into genres they’re not familiar with and seeing what they come up with.

    -Kristin

  4. June 17, 2010 2:08 am

Miles, I don’t think not participating in the challenge is going to make the artistic statement you were going for.

    -Catherine

  5. June 17, 2010 2:09 am

Nao is putting good thought into this one. This might be her “redemption” piece.

9:02: “I’m not responsible for your experience of my work.” -Nao. That is THE quote from week 1 (Gabe)

  7. June 17, 2010 2:16 am

    “Zebra, vacuum, tornado,” Ryan says.

    Huh?

    -Catherine

  8. June 17, 2010 2:17 am

Love, love, love hearing the artists talk about their concept for each piece. Ryan: “Zebra, vacuum, tomato”. What?!

    -Kristin

  9. June 17, 2010 2:18 am

Gabe calls it now. Trong for the win.

Also, why is all of Erik’s artwork a bit sad and bloody?

    -Catherine

  10. June 17, 2010 2:19 am

You can totally tell when Simon likes something and when he doesn’t. His initial expression gives it away every time.

Trong might be in trouble based on Simon’s not-so-impressed response.

  11. June 17, 2010 2:21 am

At the moment, most of these are looking like strange, failed science fair projects. I can’t wait to see how they come together, though!

    -Catherine

  12. June 17, 2010 2:22 am

Oh, Gabe, I don’t know about Throng emerging victorious…Simon didn’t seem to be digging his concept at first. I’m going to have to bet against you and put my money on Nicole!

    -Kristin

  13. June 17, 2010 2:22 am

Erik doesn’t understand Miles. Not sure I do either, but he’s still my fav!

Miles remind me of a mad scientist. Just when you think he’s lost his mind, you see there actually is some method to his madness, I don’t know if he is going to win this, but just watching him work is TV gold!!

  15. June 17, 2010 2:25 am

OK, I’m a big fan of Abdi, too. Everything he’s done so far has been fab in my book.

    -Kristin

  16. June 17, 2010 2:27 am

That work room must be a DISASTER with all that trash everywhere.

    What would Trong do?

  18. June 17, 2010 2:30 am

Is Jaclyn making a fish tank? Is it art if I can buy it at PetsMart?

It can be a new revenue stream for them!

      • June 17, 2010 2:44 am

Drown, then hang the TV. Didn’t know where her piece was going at first, but that’s pretty cool.

        -Kristin

  19. June 17, 2010 2:33 am

I just hope the TV doesn’t fall off of Abdi’s piece’s neck. Also, is Miles a narcoleptic?

    Miles needs the nap!

  21. June 17, 2010 2:41 am

You are going to incorporate sleeping into your art, Miles? Touche. I retract my previous comment.

    -Catherine

  22. June 17, 2010 2:41 am

Considering how sleep deprived they are, Miles is quite the genius. Way to pull of performance art.

    -Kristin

  23. June 17, 2010 2:42 am

Ryan actually called his piece “Zebra Vacuum Spiral?” I have to be honest, I don’t understand that one at all.

  24. June 17, 2010 2:44 am

As much as I dislike Nao’s arrogance, I do like the intricacies of her piece.

Judith is rambling…she is making things up as she goes along.

  26. June 17, 2010 2:46 am

Wow, I wonder how long Judith actually talked. That was fun editing, Bravo.

    -Catherine

  27. June 17, 2010 2:46 am

LOL – the judges faces during Judith’s explanation – hysterical! I agree: too ambiguous.

    -Kristin

  28. June 17, 2010 2:48 am

The judges looooove Miles. And I wonder how much of his sleeping was performance and how much was just tiredness.

    -Catherine

  29. June 17, 2010 2:48 am

My gosh, the judges are salivating over Miles. Agreed, though, good piece.

    -Kristin

  30. June 17, 2010 2:50 am

Miles, that was unnecessary. You are not a judge! You keep quiet, Sleepy!

    -Catherine

  31. June 17, 2010 2:50 am

OMG – When did the artists get to start commenting during the judges’ session? Miles was totally OUT OF LINE during Throng’s critique.

      Miles needs sensitivity training!

  32. June 17, 2010 2:52 am

Yeah, not getting the “anuses” in Miles piece. Totally agreed on feeling humanity in the alien in Throng’s piece.

    -Kristin

    • June 17, 2010 2:55 am

I agree, I like the concept behind his the most, and I really think he expressed it well.

      -Catherine

  33. June 17, 2010 2:53 am

    Okay, making my predictions now.

    Winner: Abdi, Loser: Jaime Lynn

Jaime Lynn, Trong and Judith appear to be in trouble…who will depart? (Gabe)

  35. June 17, 2010 2:56 am

Can Miles win two weeks in a row? I’m thinking he’ll emerge victorious after the love fest. If not, it’s Throng or Abdi.

    -Kristin

    • June 17, 2010 2:57 am

Looks like it! And, so, he wins again…wonder how long his reign will run.

      -Kristin

  36. June 17, 2010 2:57 am

Miles again! I like him as an artist and he’s quirky as a person, but I feel like his comment about Trong’s piece was just inappropriate.

    -Catherine

  37. June 17, 2010 2:59 am

Nooooo! I liked Throng. Don’t make him go!

    -Kristin

So much for my Trong prediction… (Gabe)

  39. June 17, 2010 2:59 am

WHAT?! All anyone has done is talk about how amazing Trong is as an artist! I disagree with that decision.

Miles is the stereotypical tormented artist, a la Van Gogh. Of course he is on the show, they need that “character.” But I honestly didn’t see Trong getting kicked off tonight. That was surprising.
